When should I contact an accountant?
As soon as you start to think about your business, an accountant can help you take the next steps. We can discuss your business's organization, tax purposes and operations, along with target pricing and profit margins. You need a budget and business plan.
You also need to be making estimated tax payments as soon as you are profitable. If you wait until 18 months after you start your business to do all this you will probably regret it.
How can I know which accountant is right for me?
Does your accountant return your calls? Do you feel comfortable asking them a question? Do you feel heard?
Is this person licensed to do tax preparation? Does this person have a degree in Accounting? Do they know the software you intend to use? Do not hire an "unlicensed person that has never read the instructions for the tax return" Beware of people that will put ANY numbers on a tax return for a fee! The result you get will NOT be in your best interest!
